Some landing and take-off highlights in awkward wind conditions at BHX this winter (a record winter for stormy conditions in the UK). Note the frequent flexing of the planes' wings in response to the turbulence. I was able to film a few epic crosswind landings in 2019 and I decided to edit a ranked video of the most amazing x wind landings. I included the crazy Airbus A380 go around at Amsterdam Schiphol and the Boeing 747 of KLM which almost touched the ground with engine number 4 after fighting with 40 knots crosswind from the south. But my personal highlight of the year was the crosswind landing of the Antonov An-124 of Volga Dnepr which touched down with the front gear. Watching such a massive plane with the main gears in the air while the front gear already slided above the ground was a breatheaking moment and the most amazing aviation moment of 2019 for me. Today a severe storm crossed germany and caused lots of trouble for the pilots which had to land an airplane in western germany. Storm "Friederike" was the strongest storm in germany since 11 years. Pilots had to deal with wind speeds up to 75knts. As a result I was able to film lots of "go arounds". Some pilots had to do three approaches until they finaly managed to land at Düsseldorf. Other pilots just tried it once and diverted to other airpots, like the Delta Boeing 767-400 for example. Especialy the second landing, a Dash 8 of Eurowings did an incredible approach while fighting with extreme wind gusts at Düsseldorf Airport. All aircraft landed and took off safely ! These pilots are well trained and airplanes are well build. Watch out for Embraer E190 Go-around at Birmingham EGBB Airport during Storm Ciara . The pilots received windshear warning at minimums and decided to abort the landing. The wind was 210°↑ 25 gusty up to 39 knots. Also in this footage Emirates Airbus A380 crosswind landing with an impressive reverse thrust , Boeing 787 takeoff during bad weather conditions and many more. At one point I had to stop filming , it was too windy ! Britain is bracing for more bad weather this weekend, with forecasters warning that Storm Dennis could hit the UK. In aviation, a crosswind landing is a landing maneuver in which a significant component of the prevailing wind is perpendicular to the runway center line. Aircraft in flight are subject to the direction of the winds in which the aircraft is operating. For example, an aircraft in flight that is pointed directly north along its longitudinal axis will, generally, fly in that northerly direction. However, if there is a west wind, the actual track of the aircraft will be slightly to the east of north. If the aircraft was landing north on a north-south runway, it would need to compensate for this easterly drift caused by the west crosswind.
